Solar panel grants & funding in the UK
There is no universal UK solar grant — but ECO4, the Warm Homes: Local Grant, the Home Upgrade Grant, 0% VAT and the Smart Export Guarantee can cut or even remove the cost. Here's who qualifies in 2026, with the deadlines that matter.

The Warm Homes Plan — the bigger picture
The government's £15bn Warm Homes Plan is the umbrella replacing ECO4 from 2027. It offers two routes to solar: fully funded (free) solar and batteries for eligible low-income households through the Warm Homes: Local Grant, delivered by councils; and government-backed low-interest loans for everyone else, expected from 2027, aimed at removing the upfront cost barrier.
If you receive benefits or have a low EPC rating, check ECO4 first— it's the main route to no-upfront-cost solar and closes on 31 December 2026. Everyone else benefits from 0% VAT until March 2027 and Smart Export Guarantee income — see our battery & export guide and cost guide.
